Which cities and counties do foreigners like to purchase real estate in the past 3 years?
To increase the efficiency of foreign capital investment, promote better use of foreign technical know-how in the exploitation of land resources, the Land Law was amended in 2001, foreigners or foreign companies are permitted to acquire land for personal use, investment or public welfare purposes, and to engage in various land development, improvement, residential or commercial construction of office buildings. From 2017 to 2019, the number of cases of foreigners acquiring real estate was 863 cases, 912 cases, and 1041 cases, respectively; most of the cases were concentrated in 6 municipalities, accounting for 80% or more. The acquisitions in cities and counties were the most in New Taipei City and the second in Taipei City. It shows that foreigners still prefer the metropolitan areas which come with convenient transportation and better living functions. Outside the 6 municipalities, Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County have the most cases, each accounting for about 2% to 3%, in the past 3 years.
